Useful instructions in case of damage.
Read your insurance policy to check whether your damage is covered and whether the damaged items are included in the insurance. If, for example, the damage was caused by flooding, your Policy should show flood cover. Then check whether your Policy also covers contents or just the building insurance. Then see the printed terms, conditions and exclusions. Remember that your Policy covers specific risks and that for each cover there are usually some exclusions.
To report your loss, please inform your Insurance Intermediary or our Company Offices as soon as possible and generally follow the instructions in the Special Conditions () regarding your obligations in the event of a loss.
Fill in and sign the declaration of damage given to you by the surveyor or your Insurance Intermediary, which must state the circumstances, causes and amount of the damage. As you will need to prepare and send a Claim Form for the repair of your damage, it would be useful to request two quotations from technicians of your choice and give them to your Adjuster or Insurance Intermediary.
If you have been a victim of theft or robbery, inform the police immediately. Reporting the theft or robbery to the police is a prerequisite for claiming compensation.
Before you make any intervention in the place where the damage occurred (repair, cleaning, etc.), you must give us the opportunity to visit the place. However, if some urgent action needs to be taken, such as temporary repairs, you can do so, but you must keep the invoices or receipts to be included in the final settlement of your damage and compensation.
If you have Civil Liability cover and cause damage to a third party, please inform us as soon as possible and provide us with all the details in writing, without any written or oral commitment to the person who has suffered damage.
Once you have informed us, we will advise you what you should do. Please also note that you must immediately send us any court order, warrant, judgment, injunction or other legal document served on you.
